Ethernet to USB Adapter

The Ethernet to USB adapter brings two generations of Internet computers together. Let me explain by giving a short history lesson.

It was in the 1990s that the Internet, which had actually existed for three decades, caught on and became popular with the public. This was due to how accessible the then-new World Wide Web made the brave new world of the internet accessible.

So at that time, there was a boom in the sales of modems, so people could get online. Those modems had an outlet for a standard telephone line, which then plugged into the telephone jack. Dial-up was king for the best part of a decade.

In the late 1990s, and especially as we headed into the 21st century, people began craving and needing faster Internet access. Enter: the cable modem and DSL modem.

These connections were up to hundreds of times faster than a dial-up connection. But they required new kinds of wires to get connected. Eventually, the standard became the Ethernet cable. This connected between a port on the computer and then to the modem.

Soon, though, another technology emerged: USB. This “universal” port (That’s what the “U” stands for) allowing dozens of different devices to plug into one port and instantly work. And this brings us to the Ethernet to USB adapter.

Almost every computer being made today has both Ethernet and USB ports built in. However, many people are still operating with computers they bought 7, 8, even 10 years ago.

These often do not have the Ethernet connection--although many had a USB port. Even those without a USB port can install one fairly inexpensively.

An Ethernet to USB adapter (equivalent to ‘USB to Ethernet adapter’) gives you an easy way to make an older computer compatible with modern DSL or cable modems. As long as your computer has a USB port, for just a few dollars, you can buy this Ethernet to USB adapter and connect it to the USB.

Then plug the Ethernet cable between the modem and the adapter, and instantly, you’re brought into the new era of Internet connectivity.
