Ethernet to USB Adapter
Ethernet is a
type of computer networking technology that is designed for use with LANs, or local area networks. Ethernet also
defines some signaling and wiring standards for the part of the OSI networking model that is physical, as well as
other things.
Ethernet is part
of the most widely used LAN technology available today. Usually, this technology consists of twisted pair Ethernet
cables that attach systems to the network, and fiber optic cables for site backbones.
In fact,
Ethernet has been around since about 1980, and has been used ever since. Ethernet replaced such systems as the
FDDI, the token ring, and ARCNET.
The standard
connector for the Ethernet cable is a standard 8P8C connector, though it is often called an RJ45 connector. These
connectors are used on cat5 cable to produce the types of cables that are most commonly used in Ethernet
networks.
Ethernet cables
are a standard choice for connecting computers together for all kinds of different reasons. For one, Ethernet
cables are used to connect computers to the internet when wireless is not being used. Two, it is the Ethernet cable
that you use to connect two Xbox 360 consoles together with when you are using a hub. USB to Ethernet adapters are discussed on the home
page.
A hub is a
device that allows you to put several computers and/or devices on the same network. For example, a hub and Ethernet
cables are used when a bunch of people want to link their computers together and play games on a private
connection, not the internet...thus, the term LAN (local area connection).
You can buy
Ethernet cables at just about any retailer that sells computer electronics supplies. They can also be obtained on
the internet from different retailers. Due to the high demand of these cables, you will probably not have trouble
finding them at your local store.
